About Dog Tired Boarding
About Martina Young - owner of Dog
Tired Boarding
I have had a fascination with canines from an early age due to always having
family dogs around. Through sharing my time growing up with dogs of all ages, I
discovered a flare for training them. I have continued to train my own dogs and realised that I have the ability to train others.
I didn’t decide to make this into a career until last year when I was working as
a Social Worker. I was spending time away from my beloved dogs and craved to
give them the time they deserved to spend with me on long walks.
In December 07, I decided that my ability to train and handle dogs was what I
wanted to do as a full time career. I enrolled in the Animal Care College for
accreditation to further my training abilities.
I currently have two dogs of my own. The first being a rescue dog named Zac the
other being a seven month old Japanese Akita called Theo. Zac was rescued from
Spain and was locked in a shed for over seven months. This had made Zac anxious
and afraid of practically everything. It took a while to rehabilitate Zac to be
a more balanced dog but he has come on leaps and bounds and now enjoys lots of
fun in the woods off leash.
Theo on the other hand is still young. She is of course an Akita, a breed which
have a reputation for being difficult to train with a tendency for aggression.
Theo has realised through training that aggression is just not necessary and
socialisation with other canines if fantastic for this to be eradicated. Theo is
also a dog who loves to be off leash and will happily follow Zac through the
woods in the hope that they meet a friend or get a sighting of a squirrel
shooting up a tree!
After my initial idea of starting up in business, I first thought about
concentrating on one-to-one training and advice . I then thought about the
possibility of boarding dogs for doggie holidays or short stays. That’s when Dog
Tired was born with the arrival of two fantastic kennels and a lot of training
aids!
I had my first guest in June this year , a boxer dog with lots of energy! We all
went for walks daily and he hardly spent any time in the kennels due to settling
in the house with my pack including my son!
Dog Tired is an unique alternative to kennels due to the amount of quality time
I offer to each of my canine friends. The quality time spent walking as a pack
and one-to-one means our canine guest’s minds are fulfilled and balanced as
opposed to being sat in a run and kennel block all day!
